RHYTHM · LESSON 03 OF 12 · 4/4
Hold a note for longer.
Listen for notes that keep sounding, even when the next beat arrives.
Count along1 — 2 — 3 — 4Count the held beats, but tap only when a new sound starts.
The idea
A dot adds half the note’s value. A tie connects two notes into one continuous sound; the second note is not played again.
See & hearTry an example before the quiz
A dotted quarter lasts 1½ beats. The short count-in plays before the example.
