How to tune
Play one note at a time.
Choose Chromatic to identify any pitch, or select a guitar, bass, ukulele or violin tuning. For a specific string, choose the string button first. Then tap Start microphone, grant permission, and sound that string on your instrument. Watch the needle: a negative cent reading means flat; a positive reading means sharp.
The standard reference is A4 = 440 Hz. For ensembles that use another reference, select a value between 430 and 450 Hz. For low bass strings, sustain a clean, single note and let the display settle before changing the tuning peg.
Microphone capture runs only in your browser over HTTPS or localhost. This tuner does not record, store or transmit your instrument sound. Avoid playing the reference tone through speakers while the microphone is active.
